Meta, which rebranded its name from Facebook, is constantly losing their users. Internal documents show the transition grappling with glitchy technology, uninterested users and a lack of clarity about what it will take succeed.

Wall Street Journal reported that Horizon Wolds, Meta's flagship social VR app has 200,000 monthly users, a drop from 300,000. Meta initially set a goal of reaching 500,000 monthly active users for Horizon Worlds by the end of this year but seeing that wasn't possible, they revised it to 280,000.

 

Horizon Worlds is a social VR application that allows users to explore virtual worlds in an interactive and immersive manner. It is a collection of interactive virtual spaces, called worlds, where users can do various activities while appearing as avatars. Creators can also make their own virtual space, but internal statistics are said to show that only 9% of virtual worlds built by the community are ever visited by 50 or more people. Even the company's showcase worlds, such as Questy's, a virtual arcade featured in a Super Bowl commercial earlier this year, are mostly barren of users. They used the concerned expression "An empty world is a sad world", watching these situations.

 

The reason for the Decline in Performance

So, the Meta researchers set out to conduct a survey of Horizon Worlds uses to try and understand the reason for its low user base. Its metaverse platform is plagued with bugs and problems, and there have also been user complaints about the quality of the virtual world. Also, users have complained about the lack of participants in the metaverse to hang out with. Other complaints were unrealistic, and the avatars don't have legs.

By the way, Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Meta) has revealed a new VR headset, the Quest Pro, at an online event held for developers. With a price tag of $1,499, Quest Pro is almost four times the price of Meta's current headset. Mark said that it has more technical settings than Quest 2 headset. It boasts thinner lenses and a curved battery around the head strap at the back. The headset also allows users to see their real environment around the periphery of the screen. Meta Quest Pro will start shipping on Oct 25.

 

However, it is hard to understand the metaverse for people around the world, the effect is unknown. They need some countermeasures considering they can lose their users like Horizon Worlds.
